Finally Vaccinated! First Jab of AstraZeneca

Hello! I had recently taken my first jab of AZ vaccine and I'd like to share my experiences here.

Well. it was not an easy journey to even register for the vaccine but I'm sure this is a common struggle faced by most Malaysian during the registration period. I mean, with the delayed opening time and all other system failures. Pheww, I'm glad that it's over. Let's just skip that and get to the day I finally got the jab!

The Jab
I chose the 25th of June as my vaccination date. I actually wanted to choose an earlier date because I would be having an examination on the 29th of June. But well, I had accidentally chosen such a date and I was too lazy to call them and change it.

Anyway, I was really excited to take the jab. On the 25th of June, at around 4pm, I went to the examination hall in the University of Malaya, the location where I would be taking my vaccine. There were RELA guards watching over everywhere, watching the traffic and guiding you into the hall. There were also signs everywhere reminding you not to take photos or videos. I guess it is because the officers are not comfortable being documented while doing their jobs.

It was quite a crowd that day and I had to wait for a while. We had to go through 3 stations before we finally get the jab at the fourth station. Basically, the first station is where you registered yourself, the second is where you get briefed about the vaccination process and its side effects. The third one is just where you wait for your turn to be injected.

Then, it was my turn to be vaccinated and the doctor briefed me about the vaccine. He showed me the bottle containing the vaccine and told me how much of it that I would be injected with. He repeatedly asked me if there's anything I would like to ask him too. I mean, I was already so excited about it so I did not really have any questions. The jab did not take too long too. Once injected, I was done and I could wait at the last station to observe for any side effects.

Lastly, I took the photo saying "I have been vaccinated" and went back home.

The Side Effects
Some of my friends told me that they started having the side effects after about 4 hours from the injection. But mine kicked in a bit late. I still felt fine until about 11pm when I was about to sleep. The only side effect that kicked in before that was drowsiness. At 11pm, I started feeling chills so I quickly took two panadol. Then, I tried to sleep but I could not. I'm not sure if it was because I was used to sleeping late.

Anyway, the chills and heat came on and off throughout the night. At 5am, I woke up and felt nausea. This was when I started feeling a headache. Then, I kept vomiting water from 5am till about 7am. The more I drank the more I vomited it out. I felt a bit of pain in my stomach too. But at these hours, I felt really horrible and I took another two panadol at 6am to reduce the fever and headache.

I then went to the Emergency Department at PPUM to check on whether it was my gastric causing me to vomit non-stop or was it normal side effects of the vaccine.

Emergency Department

Here, the doctor really examined me really closely. She even checked my heart condition and all. Then I was admitted to the observation ward for about 3 hours. My blood was taken and tested. While waiting for the result, I had to stay in the ward and got injected with water. The doctor then kept asking me about my symptoms and how I was feeling.

When the blood test result was finally out, Alhamdulillah, I was fine and my blood was okay. So, I was discharged and the doctor said it was probably gastric. I was given some gastric medicines as well.

The Side Effects
I went back and felt drowsy the whole day so I was just sleeping all day. I lost a bit of appetite too. I did not feel too hungry and I just had to force myself to eat something. I could not eat too much food as well. This continued even the next day. I could not really focus to study and I just ended up sleeping throughout the day and just did other things, other than sleeping. I am slowly recovering and I hope to get my appetite back.

So, that is all for my sharing about my first jab of AZ vaccine. The side effects were terrible and I hope it will not be this bad for the next dose. Hope not all of you experience similar side effects too.

It was the day where the prosecution won, laughed and said, "We succeeded to protect the nation's security." But the only thing I felt was rage.
